Goodbye WordPress, Hello emDash

Well, I made a mess. I finally said the hell with my old WordPress site. It had been sitting behind a very restrictive WAF in read-only mode for years, with almost zero desire on my part to add content, much less patch the thing.

But then Cloudflare released emDash, and I finally decided to give it a try.

Fully hosted with Cloudflare, this little blog leverages D1 + R2 + Workers (read more about emDash here), and it was quite easy to set up. Add in email, and it auto-deployed in seconds.

Since I added email, I'm paying $5/month for that. Everything else is on the free tier, plus $12/year for the domain.

I must say, I'm pretty impressed. It even imported most of the content from that old WordPress site!

I'll be updating some of the look and feel to get things back to normal.

I haven't quite decided if I like using ChatGPT-generated images for my posts, but we'll see. It's a neat way to add some flair, but I feel like it takes away from the authentic nature of a personal tech blog.

Update: ChatGPT + emDash MCP

Well, here's another neat little bonus. I've now connected my ChatGPT account to the MCP server included with emDash, which means I can make updates to this blog directly from ChatGPT. In fact, this very update was added that way!

It's pretty cool being able to ask ChatGPT to clean up grammar, tweak formatting, or add content without having to manually copy and paste everything into the editor. I can still review the changes in emDash before publishing, which is exactly how I want it.

I'm sure I'll find more ways to use this for future posts.
